The Meadowsweet family suddenly find themselves at the bottom of a huge crack in the earth, can they be rescued, who would even know they were there? Their Mynah bird Octavia offers to fly to the top of the crack – she returns with a seed in her mouth which she carefully drops into a small hole in the bottom of the huge crack. Then the amazing power of nature takes over – a huge weed grows that the Meadowsweet family can climb to get back to the top of the huge crack they are in!
This is a delightful tale, with the message that nature can be so empowering and so amazingly resilient. The weed is a completely nurturing influence in this rather strange place that the family find themselves, offering them food and escape all in one. Painted in Blake’s wonderfully free colourful style this is a lovely tale for youngsters with a gentle underlying message about the power of nature. Perfect for classroom libraries and nature study corners. No classroom should be without this book. Aged 5-11.
