The Betty Haigh Shakespeare Prize

The Margaret Mallett Award for Children’s Non-Fiction
The prize has been established by the English Association in memory of Margaret Mallett, a Fellow of the English Association and a long-serving member of the editorial board of our journal English 4-11, who died after a short illness in March 2017.

Michael Murphy Memorial Poetry Prize Competition
A biennial prize for a distinctive first book of poetry in English published in Britain or Ireland.
Charles Dickens Essay Prize
The 2016 competition was based on a passage taken from Great Expectations Dickens. It was open to UK students aged between 14 and 16, or students abroad who were taking UK examinations (GCSE or IGCSE).
Charles Dickens Primary Award
The Charles Dickens Primary Award was sponsored by the Dickens Fellowship in collaboration with the English Association and the Charles Dickens Museum. Successful schools received an award of £250
Jane Eyre Essay Competition
This was an essay competition for enthusiastic young readers aged 15 years and under, who enjoyed writing. It was an annual competition based on a literary text, requiring sound writing skills, a strong imagination and a desire to explore works of literary merit.
