We are welcomed to “the Grand Bug Hotel, where the rooms are luxurious, the guests are eccentric and absolutely EVERYTHING is going wrong. “
This is a very funny graphic novel. We follow close friends Vex and Bo who think they are embarking on the holiday of a lifetime in a five-star insect resort but everything is an chaos. We follow missing luggage, strange guests, confusing room numbers and a map that is hard to follow, a moth who has seen better days, trying to comply with a dress code when you have no luggage, Maud, a Termite Queen, termites who are destroying the hotel, and a hotel manager who may not be what he seems. The story moves at a fast pace and the illustrations are highly entertaining and repay close scrutiny. My favourites are the kitchen and the ballroom. The text is witty and delicious. I loved “Time can be a terrible Diva.”, “I can’t have the closet facing the door, my chakras will never recover.” and “Celebrities never pay for anything. They’re only here for a free ride. At my expense.” A highly entertaining read for anyone aged 7 and over. I hope we see more graphic novels from the talented Ollie Silvester.
