This story book is stunningly illustrated. It really captures the importance of coral reefs and their place as part of the ocean’s ecosystems. This book includes the problems of the effect of climate change on coral reefs and how marine biologists are trying to protect them.
Ayla and her marine biologist mother notice that many of the fish have disappeared and the book then develops the story about how they set about protecting the coral reef. They realise the reef is changing and they set out to solve the problem.
The last part of this book has information about Chloe Pozas who is a real marine biologist who works in the Seychelles. This section also includes more information and websites about coral reefs and how to protect them. There is also an Ocean Gardener Teaching Pack available as a separate publication that can be bought to accompany the book. This teaching pack contains tasks for 5 lessons. Suitable for ages 6 to 9 years.
