A most attractive book. The cover is eye-catching with bright colours and good graphics. It is written in the style of a quiz show and invites readers in. There are quick-fire warm-up questions which are true or false, and then a series of rounds – The Solar System, Galaxies, The Universe, The Big Bang, Inner Planets, Outer Planets, Not a Planet, Planet Earth, The Moon, Eclipses, The Atmosphere, The Sun, The ISS, Satellites, Mission to Mars, Moon Landing, Constellations, Meteoroids, Aliens and Astronomers. Questions are worth 1, 2 or 3 points. There are also Bonus Facts throughout the book. You can play alone or you can be the quiz master and test friends or families.
The design is excellent with good use of colour. I like the comments at the end of quizzes that spur you on – “You are on fire! Ready for Round Four? Let’s go!” and “Great Job, Space Cadet!” The book is fast paced and pitched at the right level – “ How do you keep your pants up in space? With an asteroid belt.” The answers are at the back of the book. The scores can be tallied up and a SPACE GENIUS can be crowned. An excellent quiz book that tests and expands children’s knowledge about space. Ideal for home or a class library.
