Edited by Jake Hope
Illustrated by Ruthine Burton, Chih-an Chen and Habiba Nabisubi
Otter-Barry ISBN 9781913074210 £12.99
Inspired by the various different rights of the child, as declared by the United Nations, these stories and poems are by host of well-known writers such as Cathy Cassidy, Joseph Coelho, Benjamin Zephaniah and Beverley Naidoo. Editor Jake Hope wished to educate children about the rights that they have, such as the right to life, the right to protection from violence, the right to education and the right to express opinions and be listened to. There is a list of the 42 children’s rights at the end of the book. An important thought-provoking book that will engage, inform, promote empathy and perhaps encourage children to write their own stories.

A webinar on Teaching Poetry to Years 3, 4, 5 and 6
Poetry is a medium that allows us to play with word and form, igniting writing and empowering children. This webinar will give participants the opportunity to experiment with non-traditional structures, exploring a variety of stimuli to add creativity to poetry. The aim of this session is to expand knowledge of what types of poetry you can use within Key Stage 2, focusing on modern, global and poetry techniques that have their heart in classical literature. Embedding structure into practice within the webinar will allow delegates to rehearse these forms before taking them into their classroom.
