Is this really a book about a cat getting lost or is it telling us we spend too much time looking at screens of various kinds? Things start off well, with cat’s loving owners giving him much of their time – until the screens take over. Cat begins to think he is invisible! So he sets off to find someone to play with, thinking he has been forgotten. But look closely at the striking red, white and black illustrations and you will see that he is missed, as cat’s owners are out there looking for him, a venture which is happily successful. The owners seem to have seen the error of their ways and life returns to how it was, which is best for them all. This story may well provoke children to associate their own lives with cat’s, in a world where the mobile phone and tablet seem to be taking over, or indeed to see themselves as guilty of too much screen time, so be prepared for some sensitive and controversial conversations! Aged 5-7.
