An entertaining story about Marcello the dog. He is “kind, clever and very loyal” but he believes everything is his. Slippers, a pork chop, an acorn, a tree, a park, other people’s letters, his home, an entire building, a city, the entire country, continents and oceans are all part of Marcello Von Cauliflower Bonaparte Jackson’s empire.
When Marcello takes his owner’s homework, things change and Marcello starts to appreciate the value of friendship. This is a charming book. The reader enjoys Marcello’s rapacious desire to increase his assets, and the turning point and his change of outlook provide opportunities for discussion. Superb artwork enhances the text and might inspire children’s own collages. Highly recommended.
