Little Tiger ISBN 9781848579880 £10.99
A robustly produced book with pop-ups on each page, this would be an engaging introduction to the world of nature on the doorstep. We meet caterpillars and butterflies, tadpoles and frogs, spiders, bees, ants and other creepy crawlies. Simple facts are given for each creature along with some more intriguing information, such as that ants are the most common insects on earth, it takes 12 honeybees a lifetime to produce one teaspoon of honey and frogs absorb water through their skin. Budding young naturalists will enjoy the bright full-page illustrations whilst the pop-up element adds further enjoyment as does hunting for the bee on each page. The board book construction suggests this is for very young readers, and whilst it can certainly be shared with them (under supervision because of the moving pop-ups), the text is aimed at readers from 3-6, most of whom will need an adult to do the reading and join in with discussions about the creatures we meet.
