An excellent question and answer book with over a hundred questions. The information has been verified by Britannica experts. Topics are arranged into eight areas – minibeasts; pets; wild animals; the body; food; how stuff works; earth and space. There is plenty of information perfectly pitched for young children, accompanied by attractive artwork and fascinating photographs. Pages are well presented with paragraphs of text, captions wacky facts and information bubbles. Each section ends with a “Wow! What’s that?” quiz where images are matched with names. Questions are wide ranging such as: Why are slugs slimy? Why do cats purr? Why do I yawn? Why does ice cream sometimes give me a headache? Why do we flush the toilet? Why is the sky blue? Why does the moon change shape? At the back of the book there is a comprehensive glossary and index, source notes, a ‘meet the Why team’ page and the answers to the matching game. A superb book that answers questions and nurtures curiosity.
