I love the split pages and the landscape shape of this series of books. Here we explore the ocean habitats and meet a range of creatures and plants. Eight sections include:- Coastline; Kelp Forest; Polar Ocean/Antarctic/Arctic; Estuary; Tropical Shore; Coral Reef; Mangrove and Deep Sea. The book contains lots of information presented in bite-size portions accompanied by interesting illustrations. I enjoyed the colours of the Coral Reef and the fascinating strange creatures found in the Deep Sea including the vampire squid and the ‘Casper’ octopus. I had not heard of the lion’s mane jellyfish in the Polar Ocean that can grow up to 36.6m (120ft) long, greater in length than a blue whale. Or that in estuaries the plovers will sit on fake nests at a distance from their chicks to keep predators away and this is called “false brooding”.
There is plenty to enjoy and explore in this intriguing book. Highly recommended.
