Weasel was having a lovely walk in the wood, collecting leaves, when suddenly he gets caught by a storm. There is wind, rain and hail and weasel is scared by the weather. He manages to build himself a house and settles down to protect himself against the storm. Some days later he is surprised to find Mole sitting on his sofa and has to explain why he has built his house. But Mole sees things in a very different way to Weasel and helps him to understand ways of coping with worry and enjoying things like a rain storm.
This is an absolutely charming story about a young person who worries about things and how he is helped to understand that he can cope with these fears. Mole is such a cheery and positive character that sees the fun and opportunity in everything; if it rains, you go and jump in puddles. It I such a good life lesson for both children and adults and, although it is a delightful story, it can also be used in the context of mental health and emotions. Tim Warnes’ illustrations, as always, are beautifully executed and I love the character that he brings to the faces of both of our heroes. Altogether this is highly recommended for primary schools.
